Joe Buissink.

This month’s TCPPA (Twin Cities Professional Photographer’s Association) meeting was held up at the North (Brooklyn Park) HTC auditorium, again, due to the remodel of the South (Eden Prairie) HTC location. Having attended Joe Buissink’s program, on Monday, I now know that I would have traveled any distance and I encourage you to do the same when he comes to a town near you to speak. While he and his agenda were weighted heavily in photography and largely wedding photography with ties, now, to countless celebrities…I went in looking for inspiration in those arenas but came away with a much different feeling. You see, Joe Buissink makes no bones about being a human being first. His life has been peppered with challenges yet he rises up and creates immeasurable richness for he, his family and clearly extends this to his clients and to those that make the time to attend his speaking engagements.

I enjoyed the program on Monday so much that I traveled to Minnesota’s GraphiStudio location in Oakdale the next morning to hear him speak…yet again. I must say that even though Joe doubled up on much of his lecture from the day before, I felt more in the moment as I sat in the front row amongst a much smaller, more intimate group of photographers. You see, I’m one of those individuals that loves to hear the message again and again. I find myself catching things I missed the first go ’round. Invited into a group setting where someone pours their heart out and opens their soul you cannot help but feel the passion that drives that person. I felt it spill over.  I know that I will photograph all things, from now on, with my life’s influences and experiences…past and present to guide me. Thank you, Joe Buissink, for reminding me of why I do what I do. So great to finally  meet you. Hope you enjoyed your first trip to Minnesota!

TCPPA Board Member Spotlight.

To my surprise, the editors elected to
place me in this month’s newsletter as
a spotlight…cool!
Gary informed me right away that “lei”
should be spelled “lay”…men.

TCPPA

Today I will be attending my first TCPPA event
as an actual Board Member. I’ve been a member
for 3 years and thought I’d step it up.

Today’s speaker is Mitche Graf. He’ll be sharing
with us The Power of Marketing 101.

This will pretty much shoot a hole in my Monday
but I’m excited to meet Mitche and be enlightened
about marketing! A pretty great way to start a
new year and with wedding season around the corner
I’m sure his tips will be FABulous!

Well, I can’t go any farther without mentioning
how disappointed I was in the Viking loss to the
Philadelphia Eagles yesterday. However, I must say
that this was by far the most fun I’ve ever had at
a Vikings football game! Not really sure when I’ll
regain my hearing!
For those of you not on facebook, I posted several
shots throughout the day and I even brought Gary’s
camera along and shot some video (I’ll post that
later on).
I sat with my sister in row 15 behind the Eagles’
bench on the 45 yardline…it was PERfect!
Except for the fact that “Donald Downer” was behind
us and kept asking Anne to sit down…whatever dude!
We paid OUR $320! We actually considered going out
and buying some big ass hats to wear just to piss
him off more! Riding to and from the game in a big
‘ol Expedition Limo was quite the ticket too, thanks
John! What a day!

Pete, Anne, Paul & I came back to Redstone, where we
had lunch before the game, to get my car and by 8
we were all starving again so we went in, sat in
Travis’ section and ordered up a delicious dinner
as well!

Hey, I gotta run.

CRAZY Tuesday!

As many of you know, Boo goes mental every morning.
The instant he’s done waking me up and after a
quick cuddle, he BOLTS! He flies off the bed,
onto the floor, down the hallway and into his
own world. We just started saying…”It’s crazy
Monday, Tuesday etc…It’s fun to wake up laughing
everyday!

I had the honor of spending the day and most of
the evening with Bob & Dawn Davis (la Storia).
They came to Minnesota to lecture on “Master Your
Craft” for my local photographer’s group, TCPPA.
I’ve been following Bob and his work and passions
for a little over 2 years and I’m so wowed by the
both of them. Bob is the ever sharing, ever professional
photographer and Dawn, Bob’s wife, is the ever sharing,
ever friendly photo editing wizz. What a fabulous
combo. I know it’s not easy to work along side a
spouse so KUDOS to you both for becoming your own
sort of dynamic duo!

Some of us hit Jake’s (Eden Prairie) and had a bump
& a bite before they headed off for the night.
Today they will be at GraphiStudios talking some
more but unfortunately my schedule wouldn’t allow
for me to attend that so I’ll have to hang my
hopes on meeting up with them in Chicago someday
soon…in the meantime, there’s always FACEBOOK!
Thank you so much Bob & Dawn for taking the time
out of your CRAZY schedule to come and see us!

Stillwater Shoot 2008

Okay, first of all I must mention that it
was indeed NOT the Mississippi (even tho’
it’s fun to spell!), after the shoot we
headed out aboard the Jubilee II on the
St. Croix river. I have NO idea what I was
thinking when I posted the Mississippi
but I just wanted to get that “blonde
moment” out of the way. You know, St. Croix,
Mississipi…220, 221, whatever it takes…
There.

No matter, we had the best day to shoot
around Stillwater. First we worked our
magic on the rooftop of the Public Library
then we moved to a park near by and the Museum
with a pretty cool wall and like this old, round,
gunnery thing with some mighty great lighting.
Thanks to Mark Kiefer for arranging for and
leading this model shoot.
Here are some shots from yesterday…
